The new Head of Analytical Development will report to the Head of Technical Development, and will oversee internal and external CMC analytics. As an enthusiastic and self-motivated scientist and a leader, you will be involved in the state-of-the-art discovery and development of highly novel therapeutic proteins based on Pieris’ proprietary Anticalin® technology.

Your Tasks
- Leading Pieris’ internal Analytical Development (AD) team responsible for:
- Protein characterization with multiple spectrophotometric (UV/Vis), chromatography (SEC, IEX, RP), capillary (cSDS, IEF) and related methods (DSF, DSC) etc.
- Performing a multi-stage “Developability” assessment of different Anticalin-based therapeutic® formats
- Analytical method development and optimization
- Planning and overseeing execution of outsourced analytical work (roughly equivalent to the internal workload) and establishing such partnerships as ‘external workbench’.
- Team management (goal setting, performance review, personal development etc.)
- Data interpretation and presentation (internal and external data)
- Coordination of different project-related activities within the team, associated teams (DSP, Formulation development and QC), collaboration partners as well as with multiple CRO/C(D)MOs
- Transfer of scientific data and processes from/to CRO/C(D)MOs and collaboration partners (e.g. preparation of protocols, participation in telephone conferences, scientific guidance)
- Authoring and review of technical documents as well as preparation and review regulatory documents in sections related to AD
- Identification, mitigation and if necessary, escalation of project risks (quality, timeline, budget, scope) to appropriate stakeholders and management menbers
Our Requirements
- PhD or equivalent degree in Biotechnology, Immunology, Biochemistry, Biochemical Engineering, or related scientific area
- 3+ years of industrial experience in drug discovery and development with a focus on protein characterization; experience with multi-specific formats is a plus
- Experienced in leading teams
- Strong scientific, technical and “hands-on” background in protein analytics (HPLC, gel and capillary techniques, DSF/DSC, stability assessment etc.), mass spectrometry analysis of biomolecules and data interpretation is a plus
- Expertise in other relevant areas such as protein sequence analysis (including public database sources), protein modeling, mAb developability assessment, accelerated stability, CD spectrometry, X-ray crystallography, DLS etc. is a plus
- Experience in multivariate data analysis is a plus
- Familiarity with standard computer software, including MS Office package and other specialized software (Chromeleon, Geneious, Prism Graphpad etc.)
- Well-organized, team-oriented and used to work in an independ and efficient ways
- Self-motivated and ready to take on responsibility for their own work as well as for their team
- Advanced communication skills in English expected
