To strengthen our team, we are looking for an experienced:

(Senior) Patent Counsel (m/f/d)

Your Tasks

  • Strategically manage Pieris’ global patent portfolio, identifying areas of innovation for protection and aligning Pieris’ IP strategy with its business objectives
  • Together with the Pieris IP team, prepare, file and prosecute new patent applications to protect Pieris’ therapeutic programs, platform technology and other biomedical innovations generated by the R&D teams
  • Establish strong and collaborative relationships with R&D teams through serving as a proactive advisor and thought-partner on a range of IP-related matters
  • Instruct and collaborate with outside counsel in prosecuting worldwide patent applications
  • Interact with external stakeholders (e.g., collaborators and licensors) to advance effective patent protection for co-development and in-licensed programs
  • Evaluate scientific disclosures (abstracts, posters, and presentations) intended for publication in view of Pieris’ IP strategy
  • Conduct IP freedom-to-operate analyses to support product development efforts as well as licensing and acquisitions
  • Review and evaluate the commercial and technical activities of third parties
  • Support in the review of intellectual property provisions of corporate agreements and intellectual property transactions (including MTAs, CDAs, research collaborations, and licensing agreements)
  • Educate and advise colleagues on global intellectual property issues

Our Requirements

  • At least five years’ experience as a patent counsel in active large molecule patent prosecution; 50% or more in patent application drafting and prosecution in a pharma or biotech therapeutics corporate setting and/or representing such clients in a law firm
  • A masters or doctorate in the biomedical sciences is required, a doctorate is preferred
  • Qualified as a European Patent Attorney
  • Demonstrated ability to consistently perform complex intellectual property activities independently and efficiently
  • Recognized as a strategic partner by clients with respect to intellectual property activities
  • Ability to effectively communicate complex intellectual property information to a broad range of stakeholders
  • Fluent in English and German with excellent communication skills in spoken and written word is essential
